The Mysterious Bay Fallen Tree Solution

Bring Arborascend I, reserve 3 full mana for the quest cast, and advance The Mysterious Bay to “Lift the tree at the waterfall.” The correct log blocks a waterfall in Moonlit Pines, just west of the stairs below Luna’s seed cart. The forest can look like one giant purple inkblot, so follow the cart, stairs, and waterfall instead of searching by tree color. You do not need to enter the Howling Marshes for this objective.

Quest and Spell Requirements

RequirementWhat You Need
Quest prerequisiteComplete A Curious Passage. Visit The Broken Lamp the next night for Samael’s scene, then enter town the following night to receive his letter for Kim and begin The Mysterious Bay.
Required quest progressDeliver Samael’s letter to Kim, ask the quest-marked witches about lifting trees, get the spell from Webb of Wonders, and advance the journal to “Lift the tree at the waterfall.”
SpellArborascend I, which can move one tree.
PurchaseBuy Arborascend I from Sabrina at Webb of Wonders for 1,200 coins.
Shop constraintVisit during a normal weekday evening while Sabrina is staffing the counter. If she is away, return on another normal weekday rather than waiting through the whole night.
Quest castReserve 3 mana. Mana is the magic resource shown separately from normal work energy.

Your wand and mana unlock through The Magic of Crops, so finish that quest before attempting this route. A locked shop door is not worth feeding an entire night to; handle nearby farm chores and return on the next weekday evening.

Arborascend Gesture

Buying the spell and casting it are separate steps. Select Arborascend I with your platform’s spell menu, then draw this gesture:

Down → Up → Right → Left → Up

The finished pattern resembles a small tree. You can review learned gestures in the first tab of the Almanac before spending mana.

Route from Luna’s Seed Cart

  1. Travel to Luna’s seed cart in Moonlit Pines. On the main map, find the narrow stream and waterfall southwest of the cart and cottage.
  2. Walk south from the cart and descend the nearby stairs.
  3. Near the bottom of the stairs, turn west toward the waterfall. Do not continue along the path away from the water.
  4. Find the thick horizontal log blocking the top of the falls. It crosses the stream beside a large cut stump on the west bank.
  5. Stand beside that stump and face east so the fallen trunk is directly ahead of you and the falling water is visible below it.
  6. Select Arborascend I and enter Down, Up, Right, Left, Up. Keep 3 mana available for this quest cast.

Map check: Luna’s cart and cottage should be northeast of your position, the stairs should be directly east, and the target waterfall should be just west of those stairs. Your marker should end on the west bank at the top of the falls.

Interaction-distance check: You should be beside the large cut stump, facing the long trunk across the water. If you see only upright trees or cannot see falling water below the trunk, you have found the wrong log.

Cutscene and Quest Completion

Minor quest spoiler: A correct cast lifts the fallen trunk and starts a short cutscene. Kim runs down, thanks you, and celebrates being able to reunite with “Sammy.” The waterfall objective clears, The Mysterious Bay completes, and the mermaids can begin visiting town. The next related quest to watch for is Ludo’s Plan, which continues the Luna Bay route.

If nothing happens, check that the journal says “Lift the tree at the waterfall,” confirm that all 3 mana are available, and approach the log again from beside the stump. Make sure the horizontal trunk—not an ordinary standing tree—is directly in front of you before recasting.

Tested on the Windows release build, version 1.1.38. Shop attendance may change after patches. The 1,200-coin price, 3-mana quest requirement, gesture, and waterfall route reflect this build.
