Romance Setup, Route Locks, and Ending Safeguards

You know the royal disaster: your chosen sweetheart is three counties away when their personal talk becomes available, while the remaining court is busy repairing armor and arguing with a goose. Keep romance targets near the Tower when their next scene is due. A flirt can improve the route, but it is not the same as completing the relationship.

Affinity is a knight’s approval or loyalty score. A favorite meal grants 1.5 affinity and adds 0.5 to that knight’s next quest score. Meals help you reach personal events, but they cannot replace a required conversation, recruitment branch, or character choice. When a route below has no numeric gate, watch for the next personal event instead of chasing an invented number.

Before advancing a cycle:
  • Bring the romance target home before checking Tower rooms for personal talks.
  • Serve a favorite meal before a useful assignment when you need both affinity and quest help.
  • Do not overwrite the save before a debt, family, death, or recruitment decision.
  • Keep a save before the final act. An ending reload cannot repair a personal scene missed much earlier.

Act 1 Character Spoilers — Gwendan, Ursula, and Brunhilda

CharacterRecruitment and loyalty gateRequired route choicesAssignments, ruler style, and mealsConfirmation warning
GwendanAccept his early candidacy, normally offered around cycle 3. Raise his affinity until Rupin confronts you about the debt.Make Gwendan repay the debt himself. He leaves, matures, and can be recruited again in Act 2. Paying the debt for him solves the money problem but does not satisfy this romance route.Competition work suits him. Avoid Assassination and Relic Recovery while building loyalty. He favors Wise rule. Serve Crêpe or Croque-Monsieur.Early compliments and soup-table flirting are setup only. His self-repayment, departure, and return are the route lock you must protect.
UrsulaHer early recruitment follows the Gavault branch involving Mathilda and the arrested princess. On a later timeline, retained knowledge can shorten the route.Use her drink, music, and personal conversations to build the relationship. Do not pursue Belladonna at the same time. Repeated deaths can turn Ursula undead and change which later scenes remain possible.Infiltration, spying, and Magic Ritual work fit her useful assignments. Serve Préfou or Lion’s Taco. Her romance is driven more by personal choices and survival than by one fixed ruler style. The Firetwig and music flirts are progress, not proof of a completed romance. Keep her alive and finish the later personal route.
BrunhildaInvestigate the Gavault revolt, follow the trail to the tavern, and identify Brunhilda as its leader. Use the Reason response that questions whether rebellion is what she wants, then the Audacious response inviting her to the Round Table. Later timelines can reach her sooner through retained knowledge.Answer her questions honestly. Her personal-interest talk builds respect; the later conversation about her mother contains the meaningful flirt. Do not confuse a noble-revolt marriage arrangement with her romance.Favor Crowd and Hunt work. Avoid Diplomacy and Water jobs; wooded work is also risky for her. She favors Audacious rule over Wise rule. Serve Galette-Saucisse or Lion’s Taco. The political marriage is explicitly a public arrangement, not romantic confirmation. Protect her later personal conversation if you want the true route.

Act 2–3 Character Spoilers — Gideon, Ligia, and Oliver

CharacterRecruitment and timeline prerequisiteConversation and loyalty routeAssignments and mealsConfirmation or ending check
GideonHe normally becomes recruitable in Act 2 on the first timeline. Later timelines can invite him early after uncovering his history.Follow his memoir and family route. Show interest in his character rather than judging his appearance, and avoid locking another intimate route first.Diplomacy is a strong fit, while Duel and Hunt can use his skills well. He favors Audacious rule over Tyrannic rule. Serve Crêpe or Brizhian Butter Shortbread. His explicit marriage offer is the clean confirmation point. It can appear through the family-resolution route or the noble-revolt marriage event.
LigiaSave Yannis with the cure or the magic lamp. If you use the lamp route, let Ligia keep the object she needs; she returns after several cycles and can join. A branch where Yannis dies may still preserve Southbay, but it does not produce the same Ligia recruitment state.Use patient, empathetic answers during her personal talks. Her private bath conversation is the first strong romantic payoff; earlier curiosity is only setup.Favor Scouting and Water work. Avoid Duels and crowded assignments. Serve Préfou or Crêpe. No fixed ruler style is needed for this route. Her known ending has the call of the sea drawing her away. Do not assume every kingdom ending or rewritten family history preserves an identical romantic variation.
OliverSpare the knight in the opening scene, then do not arrest Oliver when he later asks for work. There is no dependable cycle-19 requirement.Raise his affinity until he discusses leaving magic school. Support his goal and pay for the degree. His later private meeting is the romantic payoff; earlier interest is setup.Favor Scouting and Magic Ritual work. Avoid Duel and Hunt assignments. Serve Galette-Saucisse or Croque-Monsieur.The Magic Degree sends him away briefly, improves his magic when he returns, and adds a different ending slide. Complete it before committing to the finale.

Staff Character Spoilers — Carina, Belladonna, Rowan, and the Lady

  • Carina: Complete the lost-hammer introduction, recruit her, and open the Forge through the Lady’s Tower-room progression. Her early banter is setup; continue her personal talks.
  • Belladonna: Recruit the witch and open her Tower room through the Lady. Ursula and Belladonna are competing romance routes, so choose before advancing their intimate scenes.
  • Rowan: Recruit the stable worker and return for his personal scenes when he is free. Stable banter alone is not a completed route.
  • Lady of the Tower: Continue the stone-statue conversations, tell her you love her and want what is best for her, then take the true-love kiss. The kiss breaks her curse and is an explicit romance confirmation rather than a mere flirt.

Ending Spoilers — State and Epilogue Checks

CharacterCheck before the finaleKnown dependency
GwendanHe repaid the debt himself, returned, and completed his later relationship scenes.Bankrolling the debt and forcing him to reform create different character states.
UrsulaCheck whether she has died and whether the Kingslayer personal quest changed her state.Repeated deaths can leave her undead and can damage Belladonna’s route.
LigiaYannis was saved, Ligia was recruited, and her personal talks were completed. Her known farewell can still send her back to the sea.
OliverHe survived the opening, joined the court, and returned from his Magic Degree. The completed degree adds a different ending slide.
Lady of the TowerThe true-love kiss occurred. The kiss breaks her curse and changes her final state.

Rewind and Lost-Route Warnings

  • Rewinds create new routes through retained knowledge and Omniscient dialogue. Recheck recruitment, personal events, and character state in the active timeline instead of assuming the erased court still counts.
  • Brunhilda’s shortened replay recruitment bypasses part of the original investigation. Keep a separate save if you want to compare both versions.
  • Ligia’s cure or lamp decision and Oliver’s opening survival choice must be correct in the timeline where you pursue them.
  • Patch 1.0.9 moved Ursula’s post-Kingslayer intervention before the Demon Lock transition into Act 3. This gives you a chance to rewind before her undead state becomes locked.
  • No relationship is promised to fit every main ending. Choose the reign you want, then confirm that the finale still preserves your target’s required state and character scenes.

There is no morally correct courtship here, Your Grace. Reform Gwendan or fund his magnificent nonsense. Save Ursula or follow the tragedy. The practical rule is simpler: know which timeline holds the relationship, keep that person available for required talks, and never treat one saucy response as a royal engagement.
