Selected Quest Assignment Solutions and Unexpected Outcomes
You know the scene: the assignment wheel looks friendly, one knight has the largest number in the room, and Arlin returns with bad news and a purse that sounds suspiciously empty. Raw statistics are only part of the calculation. Party size, meals, traits, equipment, quest tags, and character-specific checks can all change the result.
Check for a special condition before building a normal score. Most character-specific Unexpected Outcomes replace normal scoring, damage, and rewards. A few quests use modifier-only checks instead, so do not assume every surprise hands you the normal prize as well. Failed timelines are still useful intelligence, Your Grace; the trick is remembering which goose clue belonged to which royal disaster.
How Normal Quest Results Are Graded
| Final score | Result | Reward and damage rule |
|---|---|---|
| 10 or higher | Critical Success | Normal rewards; gold is doubled; no damage |
| Above 5 | Great Success | Normal rewards; gold is multiplied by 1.5; damage is roughly halved |
| Above 0 | Success | Normal rewards; the maximum damage is reduced by 1 |
| 0 or lower | Failure | Failure consequences; minimum damage rises by 1 |
| -5 or lower | Major Failure | Failure consequences with a higher minimum damage roll |
| -10 or lower | Critical Failure | Damage becomes lethal to the assigned party |
The score begins at -10. A full party supplies 10 presence points, split evenly across the requested slots. Missing one knight therefore costs 10 divided by the requested party size, not a flat 10 points. Each fed knight adds 0.5 score. A favorite meal also grants affinity, but it does not add another score bonus. Quest preferences affect affinity; matching traits, relics, mounts, and consumables can add or subtract score through quest tags. Great and Critical Success multiply only gold. Faction favor, relics, mounts, consumables, and quest items remain at their listed amount.
Setup rule: The profiles below assume a full party, no unlisted negative trait, and the displayed statistics shown in the row. Recheck the final assignment score whenever faction-based traits, damaged equipment, transformations, or random character statistics are involved.
Minor Spoilers: Milkford, Angelica, and Chester
The Clean Keeper Goose
| Origin and window | Chester's Milkford bath petition near the start of Act 1; no fixed assignment deadline is shown |
|---|---|
| Requirements | Strength 2, Charisma 4 |
| Party, duration, risk | 1 knight; 1 cycle; 0–2 damage |
| Normal Great setup | Use one knight displaying at least Strength 5 and Charisma 8, feed that knight, and avoid negative Scouting, Flying Creature, or Water tags. Gwendan likes Crêpe and Croque-Monsieur if you also want affinity. |
| Normal result | Base reward: 5 gold and the normal success resolution. The score table determines Success, Great Success, Critical Success, or Failure. |
| Angelica outcome | Send Angelica. Her character check triggers the special resolution with no damage, People +1, and 25 gold. It replaces the normal 5-gold package. |
| Failure | The failure resolution runs instead of either success package. |
Angelica cannot produce the normal scored result while her special condition is active. Préfou and Crêpe are favorite meals for her, but feeding her cannot turn this special result into a Critical Success. The goose has outranked mathematics.
The Clean Keeper Goose, Part 2
| Origin and window | Chester's follow-up after resolving the first goose quest with Angelica; no fixed assignment deadline is shown |
|---|---|
| Requirements | Wits 3, Luck 4 |
| Party, duration, risk | 1 knight; 1 cycle; 1–3 normal damage |
| Normal Success setup | A knight displaying Wits 3 and Luck 7, fed and carrying an efficient Flying Creature trait, finishes above 0 if no negative tag applies. Angelica can fill this scored role after raising Wits to 3, but she is excluded from the cheese and horse recruitment answers. |
| Normal result | 1 gold. A normal scored success is not the special Chester recruitment answer. |
| Special result | The matching clue answer reduces damage to 0–1, gives 1 gold, and advances Chester's recruitment sequence. |
| Failure | No 1-gold success reward; the special recruitment answer is not completed. |
| Chester's egg clue | Exact assignment answer | Outcome |
|---|---|---|
| Shiny eggs | Send Gwendan | Special Part 2 result and Chester follow-up |
| Smelly eggs | Send any knight except Angelica with cheese in the consumable slot | Special Part 2 result and Chester follow-up |
| Delicious aroma that attracts horses | Send any knight except Angelica with a horse mount | Special Part 2 result and Chester follow-up |
The clue state varies, but your response is not random. Read Chester's audience text before opening the Round Table. After the correct assignment, avoid the dismissive “You're welcome” response. At his final audience, explain that the goose may have been lonely, then welcome Chester to the Round Table. Royal goose policy remains absurd, but it is at least actionable absurdity.
Regional Spoilers: Almora, Goberto, and Chester
The Great Duel
| Origin and window | Final assignment in the Almora Grand Tournament chain; 3-cycle deadline after it appears |
|---|---|
| Requirements | Strength 7, Agility 7, Wits 7, Luck 1 |
| Party, duration, risk | 1 knight; 3 cycles; 2–4 damage; non-lethal |
| Normal Critical setup | Use one knight displaying at least Strength 13, Agility 13, Wits 10, and Luck 9, then feed the knight. This profile exceeds 10 score before any helpful state trait. Victoria can use this route if levels and equipment bring her to that profile; her sword slot is locked, and Préfou or Croque-Monsieur is a favorite meal. |
| Normal reward | Almor Shield, 200 gold, and the success finale. The winning knight leaves the Round Table. |
| Goberto outcome | Send Goberto only if the earlier Fight the Dragon tournament trial was not completed. Normal scoring is skipped, he takes no damage, and he returns with upgraded Almor armor. This replaces the 200 gold and Almor Shield. |
| Chester outcome | Send Chester for his special success. He receives the normal 200 gold and Almor Shield package, leaves the table, and becomes Almora's new count. |
| Failure | Opens the Almora failure finale. |
Completing Fight the Dragon blocks Goberto's transformation condition. If that choice is already in the timeline, rewind to the tournament trial selection instead of polishing different armor at the duel. Also decide whether the normal reward is worth losing the assigned knight. A critical victory is still royal paperwork with feelings attached.
Act 1 Finale Spoilers: Dragon Knight, Silgur, Tarcus, and Arron
Dragon Knight Ambush
| Origin and window | Silgur's confrontation plan at Drakovic Castle; Silgur must be recruited before the confrontation so he can propose it; 1-cycle deadline |
|---|---|
| Requirements | Strength 4, Agility 8, Wits 8 |
| Party, duration, risk | 3 knights; 1 cycle; 1–4 damage |
| Normal Success setup | Fill all three slots and raise the displayed party averages to at least Strength 4, Agility 8, and Wits 8. Feed all three knights. Add at least one positive tag through a Swordmaster or the Drake Killing Bow. Silgur's Poacher interaction costs 1 score on Dragon-tagged quests, so do not send an unfed party sitting below the displayed floors. |
| Success reward | Dragon Heart, the Silgur confrontation state, and the Dragon Knight victory follow-up. Giving the heart to Silgur afterward improves him and completes his character follow-up. |
| Failure | Records Silgur's confrontation but opens the Dragon Knight failure follow-up. |
| Special condition | None. This quest uses normal scoring despite being written for Silgur. |
Check the party averages on the final assignment screen, not only Silgur's statistics. If two strong knights are away, rewind to the prior cycle and keep them at court. A one-cycle ultimatum does not accept “the heroes are commuting” as a military doctrine.
Trap the Dragon Knight
| Origin and window | Tarcus's confrontation plan at Drakovic Castle; 1-cycle deadline |
|---|---|
| Requirements | Strength 4, Agility 4, Wits 9 |
| Party, duration, risk | 2 knights; 1 cycle; 2–3 damage |
| Normal Success setup | Use Tarcus and a second knight, then make sure the displayed party averages reach Strength 4, Agility 4, and Wits 9. Feed both. Exact stat matches plus both meals finish above 0 when no negative tag applies. Préfou and Brizhian Butter Shortbread are favorite meals for Tarcus. |
| Success | Records Tarcus's confrontation, kills the Dragon Knight, and opens the victory follow-up. This route prevents Arron from joining the Round Table. |
| Failure | Records the attempt and opens the failure follow-up. |
| Special condition | None. This is a normal scored Confrontation quest with the Unethical tag. |
The trap uses fewer knights and asks for less Agility than the ambush, making it a practical recovery route when Silgur's party cannot be assembled. The Unethical tag can cost affinity with a Kind-Hearted knight, and losing Arron is a lasting roster tradeoff. That may suit a ruthless reign perfectly; it is simply not free.
Regional Spoilers: Groveshire and Angelica Timeline
Kill the Beast
| Origin and window | Belthorn conclusion in the Groveshire regional chain; 2-cycle deadline |
|---|---|
| Requirements | Strength 6, Agility 2, Wits 1 |
| Party, duration, risk | 2 knights; 1 cycle; 2–5 damage |
| Normal Success setup | Use Rufus and Goberto only when their displayed party averages meet Strength 6, Agility 2, and Wits 1. Feed both. Rufus's Wolf Experience adds 1 on a Hunt, while Goberto's Inattentive trait removes 1, so those tags cancel. Croque-Monsieur or Galette Saucisse is a favorite for Rufus; Galette Saucisse or Lion's Taco is a favorite for Goberto. |
| Normal reward | People +2, Nobles +2, Merchants +2, 120 gold, the human-beast state, and the standard Groveshire success follow-up. |
| Angelica outcome | Include Angelica with any second knight. Her special check skips normal scoring and damage, keeps the beast alive, grants Scholars +2 and Nobles -1, and opens the alternate Groveshire resolution. |
| Failure | Marks the regional quest as failed and sends the story toward the Gavault fallback. |
Angelica's humane answer does not include the normal 120 gold or its faction package. Choose it for the alternate character and regional route, not as a secret way to collect every prize in one basket.
Regional Spoilers: Brimwood and Goberto Timeline
Prove Epicrates' Innocence
| Origin and window | Chavignol investigation in the Brimwood regional chain; 4-cycle deadline |
|---|---|
| Requirements | Charisma 3, Wits 11, Luck 4 |
| Party, duration, risk | 2 knights; 2 cycles; 0–1 damage |
| Normal Great setup | Build displayed party averages of at least Charisma 6, Wits 13, and Luck 7, then feed both knights and avoid negative Scouting or Investigation tags. This profile clears the Great Success threshold without relying on a faction-based bonus. Alwena is useful for high Wits, but her Intendant trait normally limits her to one-cycle jobs; give her a duration-reducing mount if you use her here. |
| Normal reward | Records Epicrates' innocence, grants People +3, and opens the no-testimony follow-up. |
| Goberto outcome | Include Goberto. His special check skips normal scoring, causes no damage, records Epicrates' innocence, grants People +1, and awards Goat Cheese, Grilled Cheese, and Camembert. |
| Failure | People -3. |
Goberto's result is a reward swap, not a bonus chest added to the normal outcome. Take the cheese package when it helps his Cheesemaker trait or your pantry plans; take the normal route when People favor matters more.
Blockers and Condition Priority
| Quest or route | Condition | Result |
|---|---|---|
| The Clean Keeper Goose | Angelica is assigned | Her special result replaces normal scoring and advances Chester's route |
| Goose Part 2 | The assignment matches Chester's shiny, smelly, or horse-attracting clue | Special 0–1 damage result and Chester follow-up |
| The Great Duel | Goberto is assigned and Fight the Dragon was not completed | Goberto's armor transformation replaces the normal shield and gold |
| The Great Duel | Fight the Dragon was completed | Goberto's transformation check is blocked; normal scoring applies |
| Dragon Knight Ambush | Silgur was not recruited before the confrontation | His ambush plan is unavailable |
| Trap the Dragon Knight | Tarcus's plan succeeds | The Dragon Knight dies, but Arron's recruitment route is lost |
| Kill the Beast | Angelica is in the party | The alternate no-damage reward replaces 120 gold and the normal faction package |
| Prove Epicrates' Innocence | Goberto is in the party | The cheese package and People +1 replace the normal People +3 result |
Priority Conflicts, Bugs, and Unreachable Results
- Special checks beat normal scoring. If more than one special condition matches, the first condition in the quest's check order wins. Later checks do not run.
- Some normal results become unreachable with a named knight. Angelica cannot receive the normal first-goose result while her condition is active. Goberto cannot receive the normal Great Duel result while his dragon-escape condition is valid.
- Goose Part 2 has a random clue state, not a random answer. Match Gwendan, cheese, or a horse to Chester's exact description.
- Use version 1.0.9 or newer. Version 1.0.8 changed Dragon Knight quest difficulty and the bonuses and penalties for statistics above or below a requirement. Version 1.0.9 fixed Alwena assignment problems and a bug that could skip an act confrontation.
- Yorhav's assassination interactions remain unstable in version 1.0.9. Do not build a precise reward route around them yet.
- Armor usually changes survival, not raw statistics. Repair it before high-damage work, but do not expect repaired plate to replace missing Wits. A trait such as Tank is an exception because it converts armor into score.
If a key knight is already committed, rewind one cycle, cancel the tempting long assignment, repair the needed armor, feed the confrontation party, and leave one spare knight at court. Sovereign Tower rewards the ruler who turns yesterday's explosion into today's suspiciously informed decree.
