Gavault Rewind Route and Brunhilda Intervention

Spoilers — Act 1 | Character: Brunhilda | Timelines: discarded and rewritten.

The Gavault mess often reaches court while your useful knights are already chasing geese, monsters, or basic civic order. Let one investigation succeed before touching the Demon. Learning that Brunhilda leads the revolt gives the rewritten court the fact it needs to skip part of the normal family bonfire.

An Omniscient choice uses knowledge retained from an erased timeline. Knowing the answer as a player is not enough; the save must record the discovery before you rewind.

First Timeline: Learn Who Leads the Revolt

During Countess Mathilda’s opening Gavault route, complete one of these investigations successfully. All three can record Brunhilda as the revolt leader.

QuestRequirementsParty and timingSuccess reward
Noble InvestigationsCharisma 4, Wits 2, Luck 1Mavignac; 1 knight; 1 cycle; deadline 2 cycles; damage 0–1People +1 and Food Supplies
Popular InvestigationsStrength 4, Wits 2, Luck 1Mavignac; 1 knight; 1 cycle; deadline 2 cycles; damage 0–1Nobles +1
Taverns InvestigationsStrength 2, Charisma 1, Wits 3Mavignac; 1 knight; 1 cycle; deadline 2 cycles; damage 0–230 gold

Wait for the successful quest report and the reveal that Brunhilda is the revolt’s leader. Do not rewind while the investigation is merely accepted or still running; the completed report records the required knowledge.

Exact Rewind Point

  1. While still in Act 1, visit the Crypts and speak to the Demon.
  2. Select the cycle containing Countess Mathilda’s opening Gavault audience, before you accepted an investigation. The Demon can return to any earlier cycle in the current act, so use this story scene as the checkpoint.
  3. Confirm the rewind. Learned information and Sovereign Archetype progress remain, but the court state after that cycle is rewritten.
  4. Replay Mathilda’s opening audience.
  5. Choose the new Omniscient response revealing that you already know Brunhilda, Mathilda’s daughter, leads the revolt. This bypasses the opening investigation and lets you call for Brunhilda early.

If you have already entered Act 2, the Act 1 checkpoint is outside the Demon’s range. Reach a normal ending and choose Try Again, then replay Gavault with the unlocked Omniscient option. The Tower Destruction ending is the exception because it does not offer Try Again.

Rewritten Timeline: Use Princely Negotiations

Spoilers — Act 1 | Character: Brunhilda and Tarcus | Rewritten timeline. Choose Princely Negotiations instead of Arrest of the Princess. This is still a quest check, not a royal command that makes everyone behave themselves.

  • Location: Mavignac
  • Deadline: 2 cycles
  • Party: 2 knights for 1 cycle
  • Requirements: Charisma 6 and Wits 2
  • Damage: 1–2
  • Normal success reward: 60 gold, People +1, Nobles -1

Send two healthy knights and aim above the listed Charisma target when possible. Do not assign Tarcus: his special result replaces the normal rewards and sends the route to the daughter-dead follow-up.

After a normal success, use the available reason or wisdom response that challenges Brunhilda’s plan, or the Audacity response that points her toward knighthood. With enough progress in either matching ruler style, you can offer her a Round Table seat while Mathilda remains in charge of Gavault. The interface does not give a dependable numeric dialogue threshold, so take several Wisdom or Audacity choices before triggering this conversation.

ConditionOutcome
Leader knowledge recorded, then rewind to Mathilda’s opening audienceThe Omniscient intervention appears and can skip the investigation.
Princely Negotiations succeeds and a matching Wisdom or Audacity response is availableBrunhilda can join the Round Table while Mathilda remains in power.
Princely Negotiations failsGavault is marked failed and the route moves to its Groveshire fallback.
Tarcus is assigned to Princely NegotiationsThe special result gives no normal rewards and leads to the daughter-dead follow-up.
The player knows Brunhilda’s identity, but the save never recorded itThe Omniscient intervention does not appear.

Before-and-After Timeline Checklist

CategoryDiscarded timelineRewritten timeline
Brunhilda and TarcusThe standard branches can recruit Tarcus, leave Brunhilda ruling Gavault, kill her, or recruit her. This route aims to keep Mathilda in power and recruit Brunhilda. The Tarcus recruitment branch is not preserved automatically.
Gavault questsNoble, Popular, or Taverns Investigations was completed, followed by the normal mother-side or daughter-side chain. The investigation and its old follow-ups are replaced by the Omniscient intervention and early negotiation route.
RewardsYou may have held People +1 and Food Supplies, Nobles +1, or 30 gold from the completed investigation. Those rewards are erased. A normal Princely Negotiations success instead grants 60 gold, People +1, and Nobles -1.
Alliance and lion mountIf you delayed the rewind, later choices may already have rallied Gavault or granted Mathilda’s lion mount.Any alliance or mount gained after the checkpoint is rolled back. Complete the rewritten Gavault finale before treating the county or mount as secured.
ArtifactsThe three knowledge investigations award no relic, though unrelated relics may have been earned after the checkpoint.Any relic or artifact obtained after the selected cycle disappears with that future and must be earned again.
Other characters and questsKnights met and quests completed after the checkpoint existed in that history. Those later encounters are rolled back. Only retained knowledge and Sovereign Archetype progress cross the rewind.

This is not a perfect or consequence-free reign. The shortcut opens a clean Brunhilda recruitment attempt, but it trades away the investigation rewards, alternate Gavault scenes, Tarcus’s branch, and anything else created after the checkpoint. Choose it because you want this version of the family drama, not because the Demon has opened a returns desk.

Demon Power and Ending Effects

Ending spoilers — Demon timeline state. Each Demon-powered rewind adds one corruption point. At 1–19 rewinds, the lighter Demon epilogue plays after the main ending and before the character slides. At 20 or more, that scene is followed by a darker version. Tower Destruction skips the Demon epilogue and the character slides entirely.

Rewinding preserves progress in the four ruler styles: Wisdom, Kindness, Audacity, and Tyranny. Omniscient is a retained-knowledge tag, not a fifth ruler style used to judge the final ruler state. For a no-Demon replay with broader foreknowledge, reach a normal ending, choose Try Again, and do not use the Crypts during the new reign. Try Again does not add to the Demon rewind count. Keep a note of the checkpoint, learned fact, erased rewards, and desired intervention before every rewrite; royal timeline paperwork remains undefeated.
