Letters, Notes, and Cave Candle Cleanup Route
The paper trail in Moomintroll: Winter's Warmth is very Moomin: gentle clues, soft wording, and then one tiny note sitting somewhere you have already walked past three times like it pays rent. If you are chasing You've Got Mail!, treat letters and notes as a route, not as random sparkle hunting. A letter or note means a readable pickup or mailbox step that the game tracks for the mail chain. Cave candles are the small cave lights you ignite for Spelunker.
Before-you-leave warning: Do most cleanup before you light the Great Winter Bonfire. That is the cleanest time to finish side quests, cave candles, vase pieces, winter being errands, and tool-gated backtracking. Keep one late mailbox check in mind after the bonfire party, but do not use that as a reason to skip the cave or note chain now.
Letter and Note Checklist
- 1. Moominhouse mailbox: After Little My gives back the shovel, check the mailbox near Moominhouse. This starts the friend-note chain. Recheck it when a clue sends you home.
- 2. Sea and timber clue: When the wording points toward sea, timber, water, or shore routes, check the Bathing-House and nearby sea path. If the clue is not active yet, keep playing until the current guest or winter being step moves forward.
- 3. Message in a bottle: After Too-ticky sharpens the axe with the whetstone, break the hard ice by the water at the bottom-right of Too-ticky near the Bathing-House. Pick up the message in a bottle, then bring it to the winter being farther left.
- 4. Mabel or Misabel follow-up: As Misabel's house route advances, check Moominhouse and the mailbox again for her related letter. If it is not there, continue the current story objective and check again before lighting the Great Winter Bonfire.
- 5. Mountain note: Once the mountain route is open, chop the tree above-left of Moominhouse, climb toward the mountain, and take the rope up. Pick up the letter on the high mountain path before walking right to the diary winter being.
- 6. Icy pond note: Go to the lower Pond area and look near the bottom-left of the rope that leads upward. This is easy to miss because the pond tasks pull your eyes toward ice, snowmen, and the trapped winter being.
- 7. Silent branches note: Return to the forest route around Fillyjonk's child rescue. If the clue says silent branches part, check the forest path near the place where you rescued the second child.
- 8. Shadow note in the cave: If the clue says a shadow dances without light, go to the Cave near Too-ticky. From the entrance, head right to the rope room and check the bottom of the rope area. The clue is pointing at Shadow's cave route, not the whole valley.
- 9. Return mailbox reward: After the chain sends you through water, mountain, pond, forest, and cave, return to the Moominhouse mailbox. Do not stop when you find the cave note; the chain loops home and can reward the last vase piece.
- 10. Late mailbox letter: After the Great Winter Bonfire party, check the mailbox again before pushing deeper into the ending route. If You've Got Mail! has not popped, this is the first late place to look.
Cave Candle Route
Start this pass once the cave story opens, then come back with the sharp axe and longer-lasting matches for full cleanup. The shovel comes earlier from Little My and helps with deep snow and herb piles. The sharp axe breaks hard ice blocks. The match upgrade comes from the lamp oil or oil lamp found in the cave, then upgraded by Too-ticky when the story allows it.
- Cave entrance: Before entering, light the candle to the right of the Cave. If the mouse quest is active, talk to the mouse near the entrance.
- First rope and lamp oil room: Enter the Cave, go right, light the candle, then climb down the rope. Check the hole on the left for the oil item. This rope area also matters for the shadow-related note chain.
- Upper entrance room: From the entrance area, go up and light the candle there before you push deeper.
- Left ice-block room: Head left from the entrance, light the candle, and break the ice block with the sharp axe. Check the side pocket before crossing onward.
- Bridge rooms: Cross the bridge, light the candle near the first Shadow sighting, then check the right-hand room for another candle before returning left toward the herbs.
- Herb route: In the herb rooms, light each candle before grabbing the next herb. Watch for candles near ice blocks, snow piles, and the path that bends up-right.
- Cave Mushroom room: Go right from the herb route to the Cave Mushroom area. Make a snowball there, return to the previous room, and break the upper-left icicles to reach the first mouse child area. Light the candle in that side space.
- Second bridge and shovel herbs: Cross the next bridge, shovel the snow for herbs, and light the candle before leaving the room.
- Shadow chase route: After Shadow appears again, go right and light the candle. Before going farther right, check the upward side path, then return to the main route. When Shadow moves upward, light the candle nearby.
- Dash and mouse child area: Use dash through the snow at the bottom-right route to reach the winter being, then continue right. Light the candle near the back area with another mouse child.
- Shadow meeting room: In the room where you talk to Shadow, light both candles before leaving. Then go right from Shadow's room to find the last mouse child area and check the crate side path.
- Late ice-block cleanup: After your sharp axe and match upgrade are done, recheck cave side rooms with bridges, crates, ice blocks, snow piles, and dark corners. While traveling with Sorry-oo, light any candles you pass before following the main exit.
If a Note Is Missing
First, confirm the clue you currently have. The notes do not all appear at the same time, and the chain is not done until Moomintroll actually picks up the note or letter. Revisit the named landmark in order: mailbox, water or bottle route, mountain rope, lower Pond rope, forest rescue path, cave rope, then mailbox again.
If the shadow note should be in the cave rope room and is not there, leave the Cave, re-enter, and reload your save if needed. Use the latest game version if an achievement or pickup seems stuck. That is not Little My mischief, for once. When the pickup appears, grab it before moving on, then return to the mailbox to close the loop.
