Save Backups and Version Compatibility
Your toothbrush job has grown into a belt-filled lunar factory, and now the whole operation crawls. If the session ends in a crash, check the save protections before assuming that tidy stretch of Moon is gone. Moon Sweepers has automatic backups and repair checks to help protect the work behind your next shift.
Version note: Patch 1.0.4, released October 25, 2026, added the backup behavior and save compatibility rule below. These protections do not guarantee recovery of every damaged world.
Know what the backups keep
Each save slot keeps a rolling set of up to five full world backups. A backup is created one minute into each session, then every 30 minutes afterward. This is a limited recovery history, so do not expect every earlier stage of your factory to remain available.
To find the local backups on Windows, paste this path into File Explorer's address bar and press Enter:
%USERPROFILE%\AppData\LocalLow\DragDropGames\MoonSweepers\Backups
%USERPROFILE% points to your Windows user folder. These backups are stored outside Steam Cloud. Do not count on cloud syncing to preserve this local rolling set.
If your world will not load
- Check the installed game version first. Saves made in 1.0.4 cannot open in older versions. An older build failing to open that save does not, by itself, show that the world is damaged.
- After a crash, start the game again. The next startup checks save files for damage and runs automatic repair.
- Load the world in a compatible version. During loading, automatic repair can restore a damaged save, or damaged parts of it, from backups. Note any repair message the game displays.
If trouble continues, record your installed version, host or guest role, base scale, and exact error or status message. Describe whether the base is a small starter setup or a large factory. Those details give the stuck shift a useful starting point without guessing at file replacements.
