Spirit Races and Rewards

The spirit races are worth treating as a real progression track, not just optional bragging rights. If you skip them until the very end, they can feel annoying. If you clean them up alongside your normal return trips, they become much easier because your movement, route knowledge, and general map confidence are all better by then.

The best time to work on races is after your mobility options feel comfortable and your map knowledge is good enough that you stop second-guessing every turn. If a race keeps going wrong, do not grind it ten times in a row. Run the route once just to learn the clean corners, then come back for the real attempt.

How to Approach Spirit Races

  • Save the harder races until your movement tools and route knowledge are stronger.
  • Use your first attempt as a scouting lap so you can learn tight turns and awkward choke points.
  • Look for cleaner lines, not riskier shortcuts. A stable route usually beats a flashy one.
  • If a race crosses an area you have not fully cleaned up yet, use the failed attempts to learn the terrain for later completion sweeps.
  • When frustration starts to build, leave and do another cleanup task instead of forcing bad retries.

Completion shortcut: If you are doing a full-file cleanup, keep the 100% Map Completion and Collectibles Checklist open alongside this section. It now includes a collapsible checklist that folds the race chain back into the broader scarab, map-piece, and dungeon-secret sweep.

Why the Rewards Matter

Race cleanup feeds more than completion pride. Community completion notes point to the spirit races as part of the chain for unlocking optional late-game extras, so they are worth finishing if you want to see everything beyond the main route.

Tip: If you are chasing full completion, do not leave all spirit races until after everything else is already done. They fit better as a parallel cleanup objective while you are already revisiting old regions for hidden paths, collectibles, and map slivers.
