Online or Offline: Which Mode Should You Choose?

A new weapon drops, and suddenly the mob hunt becomes an inventory meeting. Minecraft Dungeons II gives you plenty of gear choices already, so settle your mode before the loot starts piling up: choose online for remote friends, or offline for solo play and couch sessions without an internet connection.

Online and offline are separate modes. Couch co-op means people playing together on the same console or PC, and it is supported in both modes. Mixed co-op combines those local players with friends joining over the internet, so it uses online play. Choose around your planned group before investing time in a hero; do not assume you can move that hero between modes later.

Which mode fits your party?

Your questionThe answer
My friends are playing from other homes. Which mode do we need?Online. Remote co-op needs an internet connection.
We are sharing one console or PC and want to play without internet. Can we?Choose offline couch co-op. Everyone joining this session plays locally on that device.
Two of us share a device, but another friend wants to join remotely. What should we choose?Online, using mixed co-op. Your couch group and remote friends can play together, with up to four players total.
Can we use couch co-op in online mode?Yes. Couch co-op works in both modes. Choose online when your couch group plans to include remote players.

If a remote friend cannot join, check the session's mode first. An offline couch session cannot include them over the internet. Confirm that you are using online mode, then check the connection and your platform's online access requirements before retrying. Account prompts and subscription requirements can differ by platform.

Once the group is sorted, you can get back to the good part: clearing mobs together and taking your favorite weapon into the strange new Sift.

Before you commit to a mode

  • List who is joining: just you, people sharing your device, remote friends, or a mix.
  • Need remote players? Choose online and confirm internet access.
  • Need to play without internet? Choose offline for solo play or couch co-op.
  • Expect remote friends in future sessions? Plan for online before investing in your hero.
