Equipment Slots and How to Compare Gear

You clear a mob pack, scoop up the loot, and suddenly your next adventure is comparing three nearly identical helmets. The illagers have outsourced their defense to your inventory. In Minecraft Dungeons II, keep that stop short: check what the item does, read its effects, then decide whether it helps the gear you already use.

Your loadout is your equipped gear. Your build is how that gear and its enchantments work together. The goal is to make your favorite weapon the center of a hero that feels yours, with useful support for the next fight alongside friends.

The 12 equipment slots

The full equipment system has 12 slots. That describes the expanded loadout, not a promise that every slot is available immediately. Work with the slots currently available to your hero.

EquipmentSlotsWhat to compare
Melee weapon1Your close-range attack tool. Consider how its attacks suit the time you spend near mobs.
Ranged weapon1Your attack tool at a distance. Check whether its effects support the way you use ranged attacks.
Helmet1One separate armor piece. Compare its listed effects with your equipped helmet.
Chestplate1Compare its effects with your equipped chestplate.
Leggings1Compare their effects with your equipped leggings.
Boots1Compare their effects with your equipped boots; do not assume their role from their name.
Artifacts3Items that give you active abilities to use in combat. Choose abilities that answer different needs.
Talismans3Items that provide passive bonuses. Read what each bonus affects and any conditions attached.

Active abilities are ones you use. Passive bonuses work without activating an artifact, though their descriptions may include conditions. Items can also have random effects: bonuses that can differ between copies of the same item type. Those effects are separate from the enchantments you apply. A familiar name does not guarantee familiar bonuses.

Compare a drop in three checks

  1. Equipment-panel callout A — Slot and role: Select the new item and identify which equipped piece it would replace. Compare matching slots first. For a weapon, ask whether you want to change how you attack; for an artifact, ask which combat job you need its ability to handle.
  2. Equipment-panel callout B — Displayed effects: Read both items' effect descriptions. Compare any displayed values, but also check what triggers each effect and which attacks or abilities it affects. Before choosing a ranged bonus for a melee-focused build, check whether it helps the attacks you actually use.
  3. Equipment-panel callout C — Whole loadout: Check your equipped weapons, artifacts, talismans, and enchantments together. Open the Effects and Enchantments menu to review the effects from your weapons, armor, and talismans in one list. Ask what the swap adds and what it removes. Supporting an attack you use often makes that bonus more useful during a fight.

For example, if you mostly fight with your melee weapon, an available effect that supports melee attacks deserves a closer look than one that only helps ranged attacks. If you regularly switch between both weapons, that ranged bonus may still fit. Read the actual descriptions before choosing.

If a difficulty increase leaves you struggling, pick one problem first: are mobs taking too long to defeat, or are you losing health before you can finish them? Compare available effects that address that problem. Change one piece, keep the old one, and try a familiar fight. Watch whether the new effect helps. If the swap makes your usual attacks feel worse, put the old piece back and check what support you removed. One useful adjustment is easier to judge than twelve changes at once.
