Co-op Hero Ownership and Progress Boundaries

You have already turned three loot drops into a ten-minute weapon debate. Before the next inventory meeting, settle one more choice: whose hero is each friend using? In Minecraft Dungeons II, joining the same party does not make every hero an account-owned adventure. Check ownership before you spend the evening shaping a favorite weapon and its enchantments into your own mob-clearing build.

An account-owned online hero is your character tied to the account you use to play, with progress saved online. On another device that supports your own platform account sign-in, you can continue that hero and resume with it at home. Your platform account is your console or PC service account.

What carries forward—and what to keep separate

Your situationProgress boundaryWhat to do
Your online hero on another supported deviceYou can continue the same hero where your own account sign-in is supported.Sign in with your own platform account and select your existing online hero.
Your online hero on a different supported platformYour platform accounts must link to the same Microsoft account.Check that both platforms use your intended Microsoft account.
Guest participationDo not assume joining as a guest gives you lasting progress, independent access later, or a hero you can move onto your own account. If continuing your own hero matters, use your own account-owned online hero where supported.
Clone participationA clone is a copied hero. Do not assume using one gives you a lasting hero on your own account.Confirm which hero you are using before committing to a long session.
Shared campaign playDo not assume continuing your hero across devices means matching quest states or a merged host-and-guest campaign.Keep hero ownership and campaign progress as separate checks.
An offline heroOnline and offline are separate modes. Do not assume online account-linked continuation also lets you transfer an offline hero.Check the intended mode before choosing a hero.

Check each player before the run

  1. Account: Each player identifies the account they intend to keep using. For cross-platform continuation, that player's platform accounts must link to the same Microsoft account—not a friend's.
  2. Hero: Each player confirms the selected character is their intended hero. If personal online progression is the goal, distinguish that hero from guest or clone participation.
  3. Mode: Agree on online or offline before starting. Remote friends require online play; sharing a couch does not by itself tell you which mode you are using.
  4. Continuation: Before planning to use another device, check whether it supports signing into your own account.

If the expected online hero is missing before the run, pause the party launch. Compare the signed-in platform account, linked Microsoft account, and selected mode with those used for that hero. Once the intended hero is available, check its familiar gear before continuing. That small setup check keeps the evening focused on clearing mobs with friends instead of building the wrong character.
