Hypothesis Unavailable? What to Check Next
You have the suspicious testimony, the private correspondence and a theory ready to go. Declan Ward is still waiting for the paperwork. If a hypothesis is unavailable in The Seance of Blake Manor, start small: check the evidence tied to that mystery before spending time on another round of questions.
A mindmap connects the clues for a person or mystery. Its leads point toward further investigation; a hypothesis is the fill-in-the-blank deduction you can attempt once enough evidence is gathered. Lead developer Treasa McCabe explains these systems in her Women-Led Games interview. Use the checklist below to look for a missing step without spoiling the answer.
- Review the relevant mindmap lead. Open the blocked mystery and read its open leads and connected clues. Pick one unresolved connection, then note the person, object or subject it points toward. Look for a changed lead, added connection or available hypothesis; any of these might help you spot progress. If nothing has changed, use that unresolved connection to focus your next check.
- Inspect evidence you already acquired. Open the relevant evidence and read its details. If the item offers separate parts to examine, check those too. Having something in your collection does not mean every useful detail has been examined. Return to the mindmap afterward: an added connection, changed lead or available hypothesis may show that the inspection helped.
- Revisit the relevant discussion. Find the guest connected to that clue and check the matching conversation topic. Focus on the evidence or person named by the lead rather than asking about everything. After the discussion, look for a new connection, changed lead or available hypothesis. These may appear if the discussion filled a gap.
- Check for an unfinished follow-up choice. An already-discussed topic can still warrant another look. Reopen the relevant exchange and read any remaining response or offered action. Did you leave an interaction unfinished? If a follow-up remains and fits your investigation, complete it, then look for a changed lead, new connection or available hypothesis. The follow-up may help, but it is not a guaranteed fix.
Check the displayed time cost before starting another charged interaction—an action that spends in-game time. You can take time to think through the case; the clock does not run continuously while you deliberate. Do not assume every revisit will be free.
If nothing changes, note the blocked mystery and pursue another open lead. Turning another guest’s secrets into evidence keeps the investigation moving. Before treating the block as a bug, compare your game version with the instructions you are following: patches have changed evidence unlocks and mindmap behavior, and older demo instructions may differ from the full game. An unavailable hypothesis alone is no reason to restart.
