General Overview and Tips

Start with one equipment goal, then build your workshop around the station that makes it. In RuneScape: Dragonwilds, a backpack full of wood can still leave you one ingredient short of the tool you came home to craft. Before another gathering trip, check the recipe and write down what is missing. Your next upgrade needs a shopping list, not another forest in your pockets.

Your camp can grow into both a home worth showing off and a base that gets you ready for the next expedition. Better gear and skill spells make that progress feel useful beyond combat, too. Leave room for those ambitions, but give your current tools, materials, and crafting stations a small, practical home first.

Set Up Your First Crafting Space

The Crafting Table is your basic crafting station. With its required building materials ready, use these steps on PC with default controls:

  1. Press B (PC) to open Build Mode, the menu used to place structures and furniture.
  2. Open the Basic Survival tab and select Crafting Table.
  3. Choose a position you can reach easily, then left-click (PC) to place it.
  4. Approach the table and press E (PC) to open its crafting menu.

Keep this table accessible as your workshop grows. It also handles equipment repairs through its Repair mode. Specialist gear benches have separate jobs, so check where your target item belongs before spending materials on another station.

Returning Players: What Happened to the Smithing Anvil?

The specialist-bench overhaul arrived with Umbral Sands on June 23, 2026, before the September 15 full release. During Early Access, the Smithing Anvil held many recipes tied to metal equipment progression. Those crowded menus were split across stations with clearer roles.

As part of that June transition, existing Smithing Anvils and Fletching Benches were removed on login, with their building resources left in their former positions so players could rebuild. This was the historical update conversion, not a material return that repeats whenever you log in. The Fletching Bench returned with a new look; the old anvil's broad equipment role was divided among specialist stations.

If you are following older Smithing Anvil instructions, pause before rebuilding your entire crafting room. Find the current station for the item you want. Tools and melee weapons belong at the Blacksmith's Bench, bows and ammunition at the Fletching Bench, head, body, and leg armour at the Armour Bench, and staves at the Mystic Forge.

Choose Your Next Upgrade Before Gathering

  1. Choose one equipment goal. Pick the tool, weapon, or armour piece that helps with your next task.
  2. Identify its bench. Use the station's equipment role to narrow your search, then find the item's crafting category.
  3. Inspect its requirements. Select the recipe and read the ingredient names and quantities. You can also review crafting requirements in the Journal, your in-game reference menu.
  4. Prepare the needed materials. Check your inventory and storage first. List only the shortfall, and keep raw resources separate from any processed ingredients the recipe requests.

If a recipe is visible but faded, select it and check which resources are missing. That gives you a concrete next task. If the recipe is absent, check the station and category first rather than spending another load of materials on a duplicate bench.

Keep the Workshop Compact and the House Expandable

One useful layout is a short row of your active benches with nearby storage and a clear walking lane in front. Group stored materials by purpose, such as building supplies and equipment ingredients, and leave space at one end for future stations. Short trips between storage and benches reduce hauling without locking your home into one shape.

Before leaving, unload materials you do not need for the trip and check both free inventory slots and carrying weight. Aim the next run at your recipe's shortfall. You can add the grand hall when you feel like building; a tidy workshop already gives that future castle a useful heart.
