Key Ingredient, Material, and Tool Sources
May can stand beside Taco Cat carrying a sack of junk, three vegetables, and enough haunted hardware to alarm a building inspector—and still lack the one item that moves the quest. That usually means the supply chain is missing a tool, resident, repair, recipe, or conversation. Use the routes below to find the blocker instead of jogging another lap around town.
Finding an ingredient does not teach its recipe. Records teach many recipes through the Edjukebox, while Grandfather Clock teaches tool repairs after May shows him the broken item. The PanTree is the food-storage tree beside the South Side garden. Scout and Donna place renewable goods there, while Timberly uses the wood shed nearby.
How the Source Labels Work
- Fixed: A placed pickup or one-time quest reward.
- Renewable: The source can produce more after time passes or its activity resets.
- Timed: Check at a stated time, advance an hour, or sleep before returning.
- Minigame-based: Earned through fishing or the Mine Bowl.
- Trade-based: May gives an item to a resident in exchange for another item.
- Chance-based: The result or stack can vary. Do not plan around one exact drop.
Ingredients
- Pail Rider vegetables — Trade-based: Find Pail Rider in the covered nook by the lake. Spend Metametal to obtain early vegetables such as Bell Pepper, Pasta Squash, UniCorn, Pomato, Spinachoke, and Egg Plant. Pail gives May vegetables; Pail does not buy vegetables from her.
- Garden vegetables — Renewable, timed: Cross the repaired bridge, turn left, follow the stairs or ramp down, and keep the garden on May's right. Inspect the sprinkler, then have Grandfather Clock repair it. Once Pail Rider is housed, Pail waters the garden so crops grow faster. Once Donna is housed, she gathers ripe crops into the nearby PanTree. In one checked plot, the observed range was 0–1 crop: zero while unripe and one when ready. This is a growth-state sample, not a promised hourly rate. Use Pail Rider as the fallback when the garden is still growing.
- Meatshrooms — Trade-based, then renewable: Put five different cooked dishes on the Taco Cat counter, exit the truck, and catch Scout while his aura is green. Before Scout has a house, trade him a meal for meatshrooms. After he moves in, check the PanTree. One collection contained 1–6 of each type that appeared, including Beefle, Chickorel, Fishroom, and Porkabella. The mix and stack can change, so trade another meal if the required type is absent.
- Rice — Fixed unlock, trade-based: Give a Birdhouse to the stomping Witch House, clean and repair the house, and take its Broken Cauldron to Grandfather Clock. After the InstaCauldron is installed, cook Teenage Wasteland's Ghoulish Goulash. Zojiro's trunk then appears in the far-left Glitzberg window. Ask him for rice, make the sack recipe he gives May, and return with the sack.
- Cheese — Fixed unlock, renewable conversion: Complete Jim Salk's Library House chain and play his record to learn Munster Mush. Cook the Munster Mush and speak with Jim again. Use the cheese machine at the bottom of Venn Chance's Mine to turn it into Cheese. If the machine is inactive, restore power to the Glass Factory first.
- Ghost Pepper — Fixed setup, timed harvest: Have Bea clear the rocks beyond the mansion near the West Side waterfall. Take a flower from the waterfall and place it on the middle grave with the vase. The grave beside it opens. Use the Shovel to plant a Bell Pepper in the hole. A Ghost Pepper rises when darkness arrives; planting at night produces it immediately.
Repair Materials
Basic repair stock begins as junk. Check sparkling ground piles, fish beside Reel McKoi, or clear Mine Bowl lanes, then use the recycler in the North Side junkyard.
| Junk | Recycled material | Method and fallback |
|---|---|---|
| Scrap Wood or Log | Lumboards | Fixed or chance-based. Check ground piles first. After Timberly moves in, her nearby wood shed becomes the renewable fallback. |
| Old Can | Metametal | Chance-based, minigame-based. Fish or clear another Mine Bowl cycle. Do not spend the last Metametal at Pail Rider when a repair still needs it. |
| Old Boot | Plubber | Chance-based, minigame-based. Fish or check sparkling junk piles while the fishing catch resets. |
| Broken Bottle | Glastic | Chance-based, minigame-based. Fish beside Reel or sweep another ground-pile route. |
| Grimy Rag | Floof | Chance-based, minigame-based. Fish or check junk piles. After repairing the Fabricator, two Floof make one Fabric. |
Recycling — Renewable, fixed conversion: Each loaded junk item becomes one matching material. In one run, loaded stacks ranged from 1–19 of a type and the output matched the amount loaded. That is a batch-size sample, not a bonus or drop rate. High Plains Toaster turns the crank after May befriends him; before that, May must crank it herself.
Fishing — Renewable, minigame-based, chance-based: Meet Reel McKoi at the lakeside fishing spot while he is standing still and green. After he teaches the minigame, fish in the water beside his camp. One supply run produced stacks of 2–4 junk items per catch, with 14 pieces across five catches. Both the junk type and stack can change.
Mining — Renewable, minigame-based, chance-based: Cross the bridge, descend the stairs on the right, and enter the doorway marked Venn Chance's Mine. Befriend Bea outside, give her Glastic for the interior light, and speak again to unlock the Mine Bowl. During an Outacite search, checked lane cycles produced 0–1 Outacite. If its lane is empty, clear the remaining lanes and wait for the mine train to deliver another cycle. Bowling Frames—the lane bumpers—help collect loose drops, but they do not guarantee Outacite.
Tools and Easily Missed Pickups
- Crate Deflator — Fixed: First use three clean residents to move the car in the Town Hall fountain and recover its battery. Inspect the separate car blocking the lakeside warehouse, make Wires, and have Grandfather Clock repair that car with the battery and Wires. Enter the opened warehouse, climb the usable stairs at the back, step off the top-left edge toward the lake, and climb the ladder to the sparkling pickup. The Crate Deflator works immediately.
- Hammer Cam — Fixed pickup plus repair: Enter the Glass Factory through its lower lakeside door and climb to the top floor. Take the Broken Camera near the upper route, show it to Grandfather Clock, and repair it with 2 Glastic, 1 Metametal, and 1 Outacite. The Hammer Cam reveals damaged building parts.
- Fabricator — Fixed pickup plus repair: After fixing Bea's mine light, follow the lit hall and turn left at the bottom. Pick up the Broken Flint Roller, show it to Grandfather Clock, and repair it with 2 Metametal and 2 Plubber. Exit the workbench once after crafting it so the Fabric recipe can refresh.
- Stovepipe Wrench — Fixed pickup plus repair: Cross the bridge and repair the front door of the large Foreman House on the left beyond the garden. The Rusted Wrench is inside its broken stove. Show it to Grandfather Clock and repair it with 1 Metametal and 1 Fabric.
- Maple Glazer — Fixed quest chain: Repair Maple House beside the Glass Factory, read its note, and find Mable Maple in the graveyard after dark. Lead her home slowly, report her name to Gramma Phone, and play her record to learn the Maple Glazer recipe. For its Petrified Donut, repair the pink house immediately right at the bottom of the South Side stairs. Enter, turn back toward the door, and take the Cat Key from the wall on the right. Use it at Taco Cat and clear the garbage bags. Craft the tool with 1 Lumboards, 1 Petrified Donut, and 1 Fabric.
- Shovel — Fixed: Reach Jilly Prepper at the end of the Hunker Bunker hallway chain. Before climbing away, inspect the ground at the base of the exit ladder and take the Shovel. It is required for the Ghost Pepper grave.
- InstaCauldron — Fixed pickup plus repair: Give the Birdhouse to the moving Witch House, then clean and repair the settled building. Speak with Teenage Wasteland and pick up the Broken Cauldron she leaves. Grandfather Clock's repair uses the cauldron, 1 Jug, and 2 Wires.
- Frankin Stamp — Fixed, timed: Recruit Donna at the lit mailbox, wait until the following day, and have Grandfather Clock repair the mailbox. Sleep once more and open the package at the Town Hall desk to receive the basement key. Climb into the basement and follow the left wall to the table holding the stamp.
Quest Items and Containers
- Empty Bottle and Oil — Fixed unlock, then renewable and timed: Repair the stairs to the right of the South Side woodpile. Follow the path between the two houses to the large red oil tank and inspect it. During the day, ask Madame Pastrami about the bottle card, then speak to Pop Bottle in the neighboring Glitzberg window for the first Empty Bottle. Fill it at the tank. Later, fully repair the Glass Factory, let Pop plant bottles, and load the machine with glass for renewable bottles.
- Petrified Donut — Fixed: Take the Cat Key from the pink house at the bottom of the South Side stairs, unlock Taco Cat, and clear the garbage bags. Keep the donut until the Maple Glazer recipe has been learned from Mable Maple's record.
- Jack Daw's parts — Timed, trade-based: Repair the Town Hall balcony stairs and visit Jack at night. Give him the soft or shiny item requested by his current conversation, then sleep and check the nest the next morning. His progression gifts include the Broken Clock, trash-can lid, small broken engine, statue piece, and other items. Follow the active exchange rather than expecting every part after one gift.
- Vehicle motor and tires — Minigame-based, chance-based, state-dependent: Finish the battery-and-Wires repair that clears the car blocking the lakeside warehouse. After that state is complete, fish the lake for the small broken motor and four tires added to the quest catch pool. Several catches may be needed.
Resident-Produced Goods
- Timberly — Renewable: After Timberly moves in, collect Logs from the wood shed immediately right of the PanTree. Recycle them into Lumboards.
- Pail Rider — Renewable, timed: After the bath-house chain lets Pail move in, Pail waters the garden so vegetables grow faster. Pail's earlier Metametal-for-vegetable trade remains the fallback while crops ripen.
- Donna — Renewable, timed: Once housed, Donna gathers ripe garden vegetables into the PanTree. The garden must still be repaired and planted.
- Scout — Renewable: Once housed, Scout adds meatshrooms to the PanTree. Trading him a meal remains the useful fallback before housing or when the required type is missing.
- Pop Bottle — Renewable, timed: Fully repair the Glass Factory, allow Pop to use it, and load the bottle-growing station with glass. It produces one bottle per game hour. After the mailed Juggaseed chain, each Juggard requires three bottles and three game hours. Pop's later shelves collect finished bottles.
- Reel McKoi — Renewable, timed: After Jack gives May the trash-can lid, speak with Reel and complete the repair beside his lakeside camp. Reel places junk in the can on later days, providing a quiet fallback when fishing has decided to be dramatic.
An Efficient Supply Loop
- Start at Town Hall after sleeping. Check the desk, mailbox, and Jack's balcony nest.
- Cross to the North Side junkyard. Empty the recycler and note which junk type is running low.
- Cross the bridge and sweep the South Side garden, PanTree, and Timberly's wood shed together.
- Use Pail Rider only when May needs a specific vegetable and can spare the Metametal. Pail is a vegetable source, not a Metametal source.
- Descend to Venn Chance's Mine. Clear the Mine Bowl if a needed material or Outacite is absent.
- Use the repaired stairs beyond the woodpile to refill Empty Bottles at the red oil tank.
- Drop to Reel's lake camp. Empty his repaired trash can, then choose a catch limit and fish for the missing junk type or active vehicle part.
- Finish at the Glass Factory for bottles, then return to Grandfather Clock's workbench or Taco Cat to craft and cook.
If a source seems dead, check the dependency in this order: finish its last conversation, repair or power the building, carry the required container or tool, house the linked resident, advance one hour, then sleep once. If a crafting option is missing, show Grandfather Clock the broken item or finish playing the required record, then reopen the workbench. Searching the same empty corner harder will not frighten a state-gated item into existence.
