Lightyear Frontier Crop Rotation Guide

Use the mound's current soil type to choose the result you want. Plant a crop in matching soil for a normal harvest, one step around the rotation for high yield, or the opposite step for a mutation. After harvest, the mound changes to the planted crop's soil type, so the next crop can continue the cycle without fertilizer.

Simple High-Yield Rotation

Starting with a Nitrogenic mound, plant a Potassic crop for high yield. That harvest leaves Potassic soil, so plant a Phosphoric crop next. The mound then becomes Phosphoric, ready for a Nitrogenic crop. Repeat the crop-type cycle Potassic → Phosphoric → Nitrogenic.

Simple Mutation Rotation

Starting with a Nitrogenic mound, plant a Phosphoric crop for a mutation. That harvest leaves Phosphoric soil, so plant a Potassic crop next. The mound then becomes Potassic, ready for a Nitrogenic crop. Repeat the crop-type cycle Phosphoric → Potassic → Nitrogenic.

Fertilizer changes a mound to the matching soil type, so use it to start or repair a rotation when your fields are out of sequence. Hover over seeds to check their crop type before planting.

Farm Smarter, Not Busier

Keep your homestead compact at first and use small, repeatable crop blocks instead of one giant field. A beginner-friendly setup is one block for crafting needs and one for selling, then scale only when watering and harvesting still fit comfortably into your day.

Run the same morning loop: refill water, water planted mounds, harvest ready crops, and replant immediately. Rain can water plots for you, which frees that day for gathering, seed production, fertilizer, or field expansion.

When Farming Starts Feeling Overwhelming

Use a two-day reset: harvest everything, shrink back to one reliable crafting crop plus one money crop, and rebuild your seed and fertilizer buffer. Once the loop feels smooth again, expand in small steps instead of all at once.
