Best Early Mech Upgrades to Unlock First

In Lightyear Frontier, your mech is your farm vehicle, tool set, and cleanup machine all in one. That is why your first upgrades should remove daily friction instead of adding niche power. Early on, the biggest pain point is usually time loss: too much running, too many refill trips, and not enough capacity to finish your core loop (your daily cycle of planting, gathering, and crafting) in one pass.

Early Upgrade Priority (Practical Order)

  1. Movement efficiency first. Prioritize upgrades that help your mech move faster or more efficiently. This cuts downtime on every single task.
  2. Watering capacity/efficiency second. Upgrades that let you water more before refilling are huge for early crop consistency.
  3. Tool efficiency third. If clearing or harvesting feels slow, these upgrades help you keep momentum.
  4. Storage/carry capacity fourth. More cargo means fewer trips back to base and smoother crafting progress.
  5. Area or workflow upgrades after that. Wider tool coverage and convenience boosts are great once your core loop already feels stable.

If this stage feels confusing or punishing, that is completely normal. New players often over-expand fields too early, then feel stuck in nonstop upkeep. If that happens, run a quick recovery day: scale your active farm down to a small, manageable patch, clear nearby polluted patches and noxious weeds to reopen nearby space and resources, gather easy materials close to home, then unlock one high-impact upgrade from the list above at your Upgrade Depot. One smart unlock usually restores momentum fast.

Tip: Before committing upgrade materials, ask: "Will this save me time almost every in-game day?" If yes, it is an early unlock. If not, save it for later.
