How to Get Water Before Your First Long Trip
In Dune: Awakening, a trip can look easy on the map and end with you thirsty beside a dune. If your water is low, stop at a Primrose patch and drink its dew, then head back to prepare. Dew only fills the first part of your hydration meter; it is a way to get home, not your whole travel plan.
Get ready in this order
- Make water. Follow the Water From Blood Journey. Research the Basic Exsanguination Kit, craft an Improvised Blood Extractor and Small Blood Sack, and take blood from defeated scavengers. Research and build a Blood Purifier at your base. Deposit the blood and give it time to turn into water.
- Carry water. Open Research > Water Discipline. Check the Literjon, a portable water container, and its unlock and crafting needs. At the purifier, drink to fill your hydration meter. Then use its container-fill option and check that your Literjon holds water before you leave.
- Work toward your first stillsuit. Follow Trials of the Past to the First Trial of Aql in Mihna Cavern, in Hagga Basin South. Finishing it unlocks the Scavenger Stillsuit plans. Check the pieces in Water Discipline, craft them at a Fabricator, and equip them. The suit saves some moisture in a catchpocket; use the on-screen drink prompt when it has water. Bring a filled Literjon too.
- Check the route. Look at your hydration meter, the water in your Literjon, and the nearest shaded rock, cave, or base along the way. If you already have a Dew Reaper, pack it for gathering dew from plants after dark. If you cannot yet make a Literjon or stillsuit, keep the trip short and return to your purifier between stops.
Know when to turn back
Watch your hydration meter and sun-exposure gauge. If the gauge rises or your water falls faster than expected, drink and move into shade under an overhang, inside a cave, or into a base. Sunstroke speeds up water loss. Turn back if your remaining water cannot cover the next leg and a return to a refill. For a sandstorm, seek a cave or enclosed base; for a worm warning, get onto solid rock. A retreat is sound desert craft.
If the trip went wrong: Reach the closest safe rock, cave, or base. Drink from your stillsuit catchpocket or Literjon if either has water; use dew-bearing plants if you find them. Once home, fill your hydration meter, put more blood in the purifier, and refill your Literjon. If you died, check what gear you kept or dropped before replacing anything. Remake missing water tools from their recipes in Water Discipline, then take a short supply-gathering run.
Single-player: Check your difficulty preset or custom settings before copying another Sleeper’s water plan. Dehydration, sun exposure, heat buildup, harvesting, storms, sandworms, and what drops on death can all be changed. Private server rules can differ too. Use a short first run to judge your own water use; no fixed amount covers every crossing.
