General Overview and Tips

Broken Reality 2000 can place a glowing pickup, a quest giver, and three screaming ads in one neon sightline. It is easy to cross a whole plaza and miss the useful object beside your shoes. Slow down near doors, counters, characters, switches, and odd machines. Watch the prompt by the bottom tool bar; if the equipped tool does not produce a useful action, try a different one or note the spot for later.

NATEM is the game's connected digital world. Your basic loop is to explore a region, accept and complete quests, collect Likes, and use new tools to reopen old routes. Likes raise your social rank and clear marked popularity barriers, while tools handle physical and digital obstacles. Some quests and paths require a later tool, an earlier conversation, or more Likes, so NATEM does not expect every box to be checked on the first visit. Its metrics department will survive the delay.

The Spoiler-Light Core Loop

  1. Enter a region and save. Find a Save Vending Machine, interact with it once, and wait for the SAVED GAME message. Save after a major quest, before leaving a region, and before testing a route that looks suspiciously NATEM-approved.
  2. Talk to nearby characters. Accept useful quests, but do not assume they can all be completed at once. If an objective needs equipment you do not own, record the quest giver and continue exploring.
  3. Read the task log. Open the NATEM menu and choose Tasks. Select a quest and read its current objective in the task panel. Pay attention to named characters, requested items, and the current step. Return to the quest giver when the objective directs you back or when you have collected the requested item.
  4. Cycle through your tools. The equipped tool and its actions appear along the bottom of the screen. Use your assigned tool-change controls and check the Controls menu if the binding is unclear. On the current Steam build, the combined 1.0.7/1.0.8 update also allows direct tool selection with the number keys 1–8.
  5. Collect practical Likes. Grab nearby Like pickups and clear the ads, photo points, scans, and other interactions your current tools can handle. If a barrier displays a Like requirement, record the number and return after raising your total.
  6. Revisit old routes after tool unlocks. New tools regularly make earlier barriers, distant targets, gaps, switches, and hidden paths usable. Backtracking is part of the main progression loop, not a sign that you explored in the wrong order.

Match the Tool to the Target

  • Liker: Use it for characters, Like buttons, ads, and other basic interactions.
  • Camera: Equip the correct camera mode for photo icons, scan targets, or hack shapes.
  • Katana: Use it on viruses, hostile bugs within reach, and cuttable pop-ups or barriers.
  • Bow: Check distant targets and enemies that the Katana cannot reach.
  • Bookmarker: Use marked panels and paired-switch puzzles to place a return point and teleport back to it.
  • Hyperlinker: Aim at hyperlink points to cross gaps or reach high ledges.
  • Hoverboard: Recheck long gaps, water routes, and timed floor-switch paths after unlocking it.

Tip: Keep the likely tool equipped while examining an object. If the prompt offers a Like action while you are looking at something made for cutting, scanning, shooting, or linking, NATEM has routed your application to the wrong department.

A Simple Exploration Tracker

Make one note for each region with four lines: active quests, locked routes, medallion shards, and skins. Add the return character or landmark beside every unfinished quest. For a blocked route, record the visible clue, any printed Like requirement, and the nearest Save Vending Machine. Mark collectibles as Collected, Seen but locked, or Unknown. Do not call an item missable just because it is unreachable during the first visit.

A useful entry might read: Quest—return to the character beside the hotel; Route—red barrier past the fountain, tool unknown; Shard—one collected, one visible behind glass; Skin—ZIP chest seen above the shop. That is enough detail to make backtracking quick without turning playtime into spreadsheet cosplay.

When an Interaction Does Nothing

  1. Check for a tool gate. Cycle through your unlocked tools and watch for a matching prompt or target marker. If none appears, record the landmark and return after another tool unlock.
  2. Check for a quest gate. Open Tasks, select the quest, and read its current step. An object may remain inactive until you accept the quest, finish an earlier step, or speak to the correct character.
  3. Check for a Like gate. Read the barrier or nearby panel again. A displayed popularity requirement is progression information, not a broken interaction.
  4. Try a clean recovery. Back away, equip the expected tool again, and approach from the front. If nothing changes, save elsewhere if possible, leave and re-enter the area, reload your latest save, or restart the game.
  5. Check the game version. If the correct tool and quest step are active but an object, scan, skin, or route still fails to update, install the latest patch for your platform. On Steam, patch 1.0.6 added Unstuck to the main menu, and later updates through 1.11 fixed additional stuck points and a quest-related scan. Reload first and use Unstuck only as a last resort; it is a recovery tool, not the intended puzzle answer.

Spoiler boundary: This overview does not reveal ending requirements, late-game destinations, or the larger truth behind NATEM. Keep those details behind clearly marked spoiler warnings. For now, save often, trust the current task text, and treat every new tool as permission to quietly trespass through the corporate internet mall again.
