Why Customers Refuse Your Water

You’ve cleaned the water, brought the pitcher to the counter, and the customer still refuses it. Apparently your little water empire needs a paperwork department. In Probably Stolen - Cyberpunk Shopkeeper Sim, start by checking the offer against the request. Buying another machine comes later.

Check the Refused Offer in This Order

  1. Reread the requested product and restrictions. Check the customer’s current dialogue and request. Note the product name, any stated water grade and any limits. A water-related item is not automatically the water product they want.
  2. Inspect the container you are offering. Confirm it actually holds water. Check its contents rather than judging by the container’s name or the liquid’s appearance.
  3. Test the batch and compare it with the label. Use a Water Testing Strip, which checks purity, or an AquaScan, which also reveals contaminants. The grade is the water’s quality category. Compare the measured result with the displayed grade and the customer’s request. Changing the label does not clean the contents.
  4. Check the liquid volume. Compare the amount inside with any quantity stated in the request. A large container can hold a small amount; its capacity is not the amount you are selling.
  5. Inspect the Water Pitcher for a Water Filter. This is the filter fitted inside the pitcher for treatment. If it is still attached, remove it and retry the offer.

Version note — October 30, 2026: Update 1.0.0.5 added an explanatory refusal message when you offer a Water Pitcher with its Water Filter still inside. Customers now tell you to remove it instead of silently refusing. Removing the filter addresses that specific blocker; it does not fix every rejected offer.

What to Change Before You Retry

CheckNext action
Wrong requested productChoose stock that matches the named product and stated restrictions. Do not assume cleaner water counts as a substitute.
Label and measured contents disagreeCorrect the label to match the tested batch. If that batch does not meet the request, choose another batch or treat and retest it.
Insufficient volumePrepare enough suitable water for the displayed request. Retest if you mix batches.
Water Filter left inside the pitcherRemove the filter, then offer the pitcher again.

Attracting a buyer, meeting their request and improving water quality are three separate jobs. Getting a water customer through the door does not make every batch suitable. Cleaner water alone does not prove that you have the requested product, grade or quantity. Relabeling also does not guarantee a visitor or an accepted sale.

If the offer still fails, compare the refusal text with the request, tested contents, displayed grade and volume. Change the detail the message points to, then retry. If you cannot fill the request with your current stock, pause equipment spending and consider ordinary resale when suitable goods and buyers appear. Spotting value builds the empire; spending the rent reserve on a mystery fix feeds the landlord’s.
