Why Supplies Stop Moving

Your settlement needs Wood, but the Woodcutter has become a very expensive Wood Waste cupboard. In Beyond These Stars, a building can stop because its side product has nowhere to go—even while you need more of its main product. Before adding another producer, select the stalled building and inspect what it holds.

Inputs are the resources a building needs to work. Outputs are what it makes, including any byproducts: extra resources made alongside the main item. Check each input and both kinds of output. Either full main-product storage or full byproduct storage can stop production.

SymptomInventory or setting to inspectLikely bottleneckSuggested next action
A needed input is missing. The affected building’s input inventory, then the building or storage supplying it.The resource is unavailable locally or has not reached this building.Check where the input is stored and how far it must travel. Watch whether deliveries reach the empty input inventory.
Main-product storage is full. The producer’s main output and nearby storage allocation.Finished goods have nowhere to go.Configure nearby storage to accept that product, then watch whether the producer’s output begins to empty.
Byproduct storage is full. Each byproduct inventory, even if the main output has room. The extra resource is blocking further production.Give that specific byproduct space in nearby storage. For a Woodcutter, check Wood Waste as well as Wood.
Storage has free space, but the blocked resource stays put.The nearby storage building’s resource allocation. Its space is not configured for the resource that needs moving.Configure available capacity for the exact blocked resource, then watch for collection.

A settlement-wide stockpile does not prove this building has its inputs. Delivery depends on distance and demand. Follow the missing resource back to its supplier rather than treating the total stock count as proof that everything is fine.

Try one targeted change, then check the building again: are inputs arriving, outputs leaving, and production starting? These checks help isolate the blockage; they are not a guaranteed repair sequence. A Storage Shed—a building configured to hold selected goods—can buy breathing room, but it will fill too. Keep your star-hopping settlement moving by finding which resource needs a destination before expanding the chain.
