Hard Mode Efficiency Guide

Hard Mode in Little Rocket Lab has a special talent for turning one cute St. Ambroise workshop into a town-wide noodle map. One minute Morgan is feeding resources into a neat line, and the next minute a conveyor is crossing half the road, squeezing past awkward build space, fighting for water-side room, and somehow still starving the final assembler or Silo delivery line. That mess is normal. Hard Mode mostly makes the same town ask for much more, so it does not ask for magic. It asks you to stop building forward for a minute, name the exact choke point, and rebuild only the part of the line that is wasting time.

Start by checking throughput, which means how many items your machines can make and move over time. Do not add more machines yet. Stand at the last machine, buffer, or Silo input that is waiting, then trace the line backward. The first empty input is your real problem. If the Silo line is missing plates, fix plates. If plates are full but the next crafted part is slow, fix that machine stage. If every machine is full but items crawl along the belt, fix routing. Hard Mode punishes guesswork, so make the bottleneck confess before you spend materials.

Clean Rebuild Pattern

  1. Stop the sprawl. Pick one production chain and let the rest of town keep running. Do not rebuild all of St. Ambroise at once unless you enjoy living inside a parts drawer.
  2. Make three lanes. Put raw material input on the left, basic processing in the middle, and final crafting on the right. This keeps belts short and makes screenshots easy to read later.
  3. Use one main belt per item type. If scrap, plates, and finished parts share the same path, jams become harder to see. Split them early, even if the layout looks plain.
  4. Add a buffer before the slow step. A buffer is a small storage stop that holds extra items before an important machine. The Item Buffer is built for this job, but any clear storage handoff can help while you run errands, repair town spots, or move between areas.
  5. Leave a walking lane. Keep one open tile path through the build. Inventory trips are already a tax in Hard Mode. Do not make Morgan hike around her own clever science trap.

The best Hard Mode layout is not the biggest one. It is the one where every machine has a clear job and every belt has a short reason to exist. A good rule is this: if you cannot explain a belt in five words, pull it up and reroute it. Feeds plates to rocket parts is good. Goes around the shop because yesterday made sense is how conveyor spaghetti gets voting rights.

If you are already stuck in a huge messy build, recover in place. Do not delete everything. Empty the final crafting area first, place storage nearby for the parts you already made, then rebuild backward one stage at a time. Keep any working raw material lines until the new version is ready. This lets Morgan keep progress moving while you clean the machine, and it keeps the town revival feeling like a smart repair job instead of a full factory disaster.

Hard Mode is at its best when the quiet town starts acting like a clever little engine. You are not just grinding bigger numbers. You are teaching St. Ambroise to turn humble scraps into rocket pieces with less waste, cleaner paths, and fewer midnight walks across town because one belt decided to be dramatic.
