How do I use fire ability?

I have gained fire ability and want to use it in Crown jewels room and greenhouse but can't. Click on fairy and am offered rock or hint but no symbol for fire. Help please as I am now stuck.

I did get stuck with this and then realised that you could rotate the abilities and I was actually using the stone instead of fire. If you look, you can see a small arrow by the fairy when you click on her and that switches between the abilities. Stone works as a small yellow ball on the screen, which is confusing. Fire is actually a large ball of fire.
