What do the "exclusive" jewels on this level do? I accidentally dismissed the instruction and am having an awful time trying to complete a board. Any help would be appreciated.

To pass Pedro de Arteche, you just have to keep trying until you can complete the board before going to the unlimited level.

Are there any instructions as to how the jewels in this level work. It is so frustrating not understanding how to play this level.

I found the secret. I experimented until I realized that the special jewels are the only matches that can turn the squares gold---AND KEEP THEM GOLD!!! It's still hard, but knowing how it's played makes it a little better.
