What do the "exclusive" jewels do? I missed the instruction and can't find anywhere to go to find out about it. HELP PLEASE

They are the only ones that will turn the squares gold

After squares turn gold, they turn back to grey with some sequences of jewels. Are there instructions for this level anywhere. I cannot find a walkthrough.
