You have to finish the whole game with FLAGS symbols not shields able to build the CASTLE as COMPLETE, the different symbols are the SILVER SHIELD is you beat it after nightfall and the FLAG is you beat it with the bonus before nightfall (u need these to finish your castle)

i go through the level to change the shield into a flag and nothing happens. even if beat my own score! what do i do!?
Are you beating nightfall though? You have to finish before the timer bar turns yellow. I don't see how you would not be getting a gold flag if you finished while the timer is green. Beating your own time/score isn't what gets you the gold flag. I'm sorry I can't be of more help.
