This happened to my hero, too. But now she can't shoot anything. Did you find out if this is a bug? Do you know how to change it back to a gun?
Even I have this bug, the hero has his pickaxe stuck in his hand all the time after mining silver for the silver ring at the top right of the map (the silver near the big train tunnel).
I think it is also the reason why my character cannot complete the sunken treasure quest, he just doesn't go down the well even though it is built in the right place (center) and the chest with the letter and the key in the water mine was already found.
