The mouse is very slow to respond. The timeout clock continues to tick while it is adding up your blocks and replacing them with new ones. This is frustrating toward the end of a level when you know what you want to do but you must wait for the game to complete the addition. It should either add faster or pause the clock while it is shifting blocks around.
