You can't. It was an either or, choice. The Jewlers tool kit is what the troll was guarding. That will just be one thing you can't complete in your journal.

You'll find the northwind in a cave in the North Pass (the entrance is near Candar). You have to be quite strong though, there's lots of fauna walking about there! I got a jeweler's kit in the mini-dwarf caves near Verashema which I gave to Rothwell in Candar, but now the mini-dwarves apparently are no longer selling any jewels, I'm not sure how that will impact on my game...
