just get the kids to collect mushrooms. thats how my villagers survived while i waited for the food to grow.

you can get coconuts fish or harvest your food

The first food source is the sea. it'll run out at some point. lvl 2 food lets you harvest coconuts. it runs out too but it grows back. And, you can also plant vegetables. at lvl 3 food, you can restore the sea to normal and get infinite food source.
