I am putting the medallion in the gate and it's not working

I think you need the hand in your inventory to place the badge in the gate

I have the hand and the medallion and i still cannot go though the door. Please help me.

I am having the same problem. I have the hand, the thistle, the mirror and the order medal in my inventory.
I cannot place the medal on the gate.
Does anyone have any ideas?

Solved it.
The thistle needs to be in the locket which is in the room with the chemicals.
Once that is done, the basement the owl works.
