Can not pick up trash off the desk

Please help! I am on my 15th generation and I am still unable to pick up a piece of trash on the desk next to the computer. I have been placing my person on it repeatedly and for long periods of time and still nothing! I don't want to start over. Can someone please help? Or at least tell me who to contact from this site that will answer? Thanks
