Changing names on phone app

I can't change the names of the villagers on the phone app I purchased. For the original 5 villagers, there was a cursor in the name box, but I couldn't get it to move and couldn't type in the box. For all the babies born so far, there isn't even a cursor in the name box. Any suggestions??
