I have tried to buy new clothes at the store, but sometimes it says I already have this outfit and won't let me purchase it again. I am wondering if there is a place in the house to retrieve the outfits I have already purchased and used in previous generations or are they gone forever.

No there is not. You just have to keep buying them. If it is in your tray then it won't let you buy it again. But I have purchased the same outfit and it let me.
