Gong Piece Glitch

Once my builders uncovered the ancient mosaic, I dropped an elder totem onto the center, revealing a piece of the gong. Then I had a villager pick it up, and she started to take it to the gong encasement, but the problem is, on the way there she died, dropping the gong piece. Now I can't find it, and I can't complete the puzzle until I do. Any suggestions?

Try moving the totem away and then back.
