Expert Stars for all goals

I am just wondering, as i cant seem to work out how, when i go back to 'Replay" the cave, am i able to get the expert gold stars that i missed the first time?

When i went into the cave, it said i had 1 day to get the expert star, but there was an empty goal box with no goal. once i had finished the day, the next day it said i had failed. ????

As i would like to get an expert star on all levels, without having to restart the game from the very beginning, is there something i'm missing?
